The Canadian Dove Association’s 30th Annual Show & Sale was held on November 28th, 2009 in the Oxford Auditorium on the Woodstock, Fairgrounds in conjunction with the 39th Annual Specialty Pigeon Show. There were numerous fanciers visiting our section throughout the day asking questions about the doves that were exhibited in the show, and about keeping doves in general. This year we had seven exhibitors showing a total of 73 entries - 22 Ring Neck Doves shown in 13 different mutations; 35 Diamond Doves shown in 9 different mutations; 9 Doves were shown in the section for Senegal Doves and Smaller in 7 species, 4 Doves were shown in 3 species in the section of the show for Doves Larger than Senegal Doves, and 3 doves were shown in the Junior section of the show. The Champion Dove was an Old Male Senegal Dove shown by Bernie VanErp, Parkhill, Ontario. The Reserve Champion Dove was a Old Male Yellow Diamond Dove shown by John House, Plattsville, Ontario. A Young Male Wild Pied Ringneck Dove won the Bill and Jane Jansen Memorial Award as the Best 2009 Dove in the show for Bernie VanErp. In the Junior Section of the show, Hunter and Axel House, Innerkip, Ontario won Champion Junior Dove with an Old Male Fawn Ring Neck Dove. The Best Ring Neck Dove was a Old Male Orange shown by Bernie VanErp, and the Reserve Ring Neck Dove was a Young Male Wild Pied also shown by Bernie Vanerp. Best Diamond Dove was a Old Male Yellow shown by John House, and the Reserve Diamond Dove was a Old Male Blue White-tail/rump shown by John House. Best Dove in the section for Senegal Doves and Smaller was an Old Male Senegal Dove shown by Bernie VanErp, and the Reserve in this section was an Old Male Gold-billed Ground Dove shown by Bernie VanErp. Best Dove exhibited in the section for Doves Larger than Senegal Doves was an Old Female Green-winged shown by Bernie VanErp, and the Dove selected as the Reserve in this section was an Old Male Australian Crested Pigeon shown by Bernie VanErp. This year our judge was Mike Rex, Bay City, Michigan, and clerking was Dave House, Innerkip, Ontario. Rae Smart, London, Ontario was our auctioneer for the donated items. The Association would also like to say "Thank You" to the members and the suppliers who donated items of interest for the auction which raised $161.50. Thank you for your generous support and contributions! The members then went to the Bamboo Restaurant for dinner, and some relaxing, prior to taking down the show.
